Who Moved My Cheese

Who moved my cheese?: An amazing way to deal with change in your work and in your life
A book about the different type of Cheese…….just kidding.

Cheese in the book denotes what we treasure and hold on to, be it money, opportunities, relationship anything we place a value on. This short book reminds us how to deal with changes in life. Most material out there tells us not to be stuck in a rut, to embrace change etc etc etc. Having the ability to recognize if and when, we are in the “comfort zone” in the first place, is equally important. Most of us won’t change till we recognized the need to change.

What I liked
– short book, light reading, story form helps readers to easily remember the concepts, helps to look at our own silliness at times and laugh about it and move on. Good for those who don’t like long reads.

How it helped me – recently upon reflection, I’ve found that –
1. someone did move my “cheese” in one of my businesses, one part of me did not move on to find new cheese, I just sat around waiting for situation to change
2. I did explore other opportunities and am now acting on it, this part of me went on to find new cheese

Though I’m the type, who always looks to improve things around me, I too fell into the trap. Only through hindsight, I realized I should have run off to find new cheese in situation no. 1 and acted on no. 2 sooner.

What I didn’t like – the story tell a rather simplistic view of change. Who have not heard the part that it is better to be pro-active than reactive? Anyone who went through change will tell you it isn’t easy when you are in it.

How does this relate to money? In investing, saving, spending, keep an eye on changes in the environment you are in. How does expensive oil affect your spending? Are you going to trade in the gas guzzling SUV? Think not. Most people, though I’m generalizing here, will only change if they have to.
