Too Much Business Ideas

I was invited to a direct selling seminar couple of weeks back. Now I was partly obligated in a sense as the person asking me was a good friend and I am the sort of chap that is always on the lookout for ideas to generate some side income. Yeah, I admit that some side income would be handy but I’ve long since given up on the idea that there is easy money to be made.No such thing.

And so there I was listening to the talk. Not too impressive I have to say, but the people who organize such things are smart. And I also learn one or two things from attending the seminar. Nowadays, instead of putting a high power archiver with nice suit and powerful presentation, organizers put a relative newbie to make such talk more believable. One things these guys did right was to put about 20 people or so on stage to give testimonial of the product’s effectiveness and after that the income that there were earning! Pretty smart move. I have to say, I was convinced that this thing works, but another part of my brain says yeah, more hard work. I’m already talking to people the whole day. I’m not going to have my evenings out too recruiting people. But like I said these people are smart.

So using lots of life testimony is good for any business. On the other hand too, some of the testimony is not that truthful, or perhaps I was a bit tired and heard something else. The impression I got, was that these people say they earn $X amount of dollars and spend about 2-3 hours a day. A few days later, one of my clients asked me to meet him and by pure coincidence, we met at the place where this direct selling firm is operating. And I saw a few familiar faces. The same people who says they work very part time 2-3 hours a day, were hanging aroung there waiting, purchasing stock, signing up new people. It was definately MORE than the 2-3 hours a day that they claim they were working! This proofed that you don’t get freebies. Those people who make the money, put in the effort. If not now, the effort was put in much earlier. Probably time, energy and sacrifices is more likely.

And so, I was bombarded with another opportunity, and I was just about to embark on a online project that will take several weeks. On top of that, my mind always is running analysis when I see businesses. So I came to the conclusion that, too much ideas can be a bad thing if you don’t have the time to run it. Better to have 1 or 2 ideas and FOCUS. If you are like me, in this day and age, where we are bombardered with opportunity everywhere we turn, take note. If you don’t have the time, any time spent on New Opportunity could be time taken away from the one you are working on. Think carefully before you get into any side income business.

As for me, I vow to stop thinking and analyzing other people’s business and probably develop the habit to focus on my own business.
