Make Money Through Teamworking - Part 2

I mentioned in my earlier post about making more money through teamworking. I think the payoffs are immeasurable. Let me share with you what happened in the last few days.

My colleague has “decided” to resume studies abroad with the intention of getting a job in the UK once he gets his recognized certificate. There is multiple reasons for moving abroad but the key reason is to travel and enjoy life in a foreign land. And if he decides he likes the place after staying there for a couple of years, he’s probably going to migrate there. Good plan right? After all, it is not easy to get a working permit there especially for Asians going to the UK.

During the past 3 days, we traveled together, (let’s call my colleague Mr. Leaving), like a mini roadshow. We went to meet with Mr. Leaving customers to get acquainted with some small talk before we moved on the the next customer. So there we were stuck in the car for more than 8 hours everyday touching base with as many clients we can fit into a day. since we we in the car and stuck in traffic at time, we had time to talk about all sorts of things including future plans, the home over here, the recent election in Malaysia (which was and still is a hot topic at the moment) plus anything else under the sun.

In the course of our discussion, somehow the matter of work, business and purpose came up for Mr. Leaving. From the conversation we had, I told Mr. Leaving from the top of my head and said, “If your purpose of going overseas is just experienced living abroad and traveling for an extended period, you can. All you have to do is push yourself to attain the sales target you need (in order to afford the 2 to 3 months abroad) and off you go!”

After a long pause, Mr. Leaving blurted this out, “I never thought about it that way!” I was shocked. It is such a long and tedious preparation to move with so many things to consider like get into a university, spent a big sum of money, sell the car, move his stuff across the world and here he has an workable alternative.

Now, off course there are trade off between staying in the UK for 2 full years versus just traveling there for 2 to 3 months. But, frankly I was a bit surprised what I suggested could be a possible solution to what he wanted.

It just brought home the point that teamwork, i.e. several brains will always come out with more alternatives and in some ways better alternative to solving problems. In this case, it is related to finances. It is just like what some big manufacturers be it toys or cars or whatever, they have teams competing to produce the best hit product. Competition, in this case friendly competitive teamwork reveals the best ideas.

Working in teams is similar. You get ideas, something wacky no doubt, but in the end, choosing the best is much easier, saving you time, money and at time heartache.

Side note - Mr Leaving stuck to his plans for living abroad and is now happily enjoying life abroad …… I think.
