We almost needed to dig into our emergency fund. It is definitely something we did not budget for. What was it? Termites!

Mrs Ed was digging into our kitchen cabinet looking for some “hardly ever used” cutlery, and lo and behold, there was a partly eaten carton box. Immediate, what would have been an easy Sunday afternoon was spent to check and exterminate the little fellas.
We were lucky. Somehow, the termites left on their own accord! Don’t know why, but they did. Perhaps it was because we sprayed some insecticide to kill ants a few weeks back, So after a couple of hours to remove the stuff in the kitchen cabinet and to remove some boards, we managed to coat some termite poison into the wood. In case you are thinking why would we put poison so close to the foodstuff, it is just pots and pans. We usually wash them before we used them so it should be okay. If we ever got poisoned, we will let you know. (Maybe I’m already a bit high, writing like this)
Looks like the next few weekends will be spent to check the rest of the house and to treat any wood that might be potential food for the termites. If the termites did not leave, it could have cost us a few hundred dollars worth of repairs. But I also know they will be back. The next time, we might not be so lucky.
