Don’t Give Up
Reflecting back from my last post, it’s actually been a while since I tighten my belt on spending. For the last 1-2 years, I usually have sufficient funds for most purchases. Off course, they are times the money come in a bit later so I put off major purchases. This time round, it is a bit different as sales dipped last few months but I’m glad to say, it has improved.
This brought me back to thinking of the days years ago, when I started my current job of being in free lance sales. Those times were really tough that many a month, I have to dig into my savings. I’m sure most entrepreneurs have faced those times. When almost everything feels like it is going against you. I remember the days when I parked in back lanes to avoid paying for parking and then sometimes getting a parking ticket. The saying that when it rain, it really pours hold some truth here. Those days were a little different as I was still single and don’t have to worry too much as long as my own expenses are taken care off. Nowadays with housing loans and car loans plus other expenses, I promised myself, never to go near the financial danger zone. Which brings me to my post.
I’m a Formula 1 fan. I root for Michael Schumacher. I know that many people don’t like him, but I’ve been rooting for Ferrari years ago, when Formula 1 was very much different from today. Why do I admire Schumacher? Well, he never gives up! Last weekend Michael Schumacher started 6th on the grid but went on to finish 1st. There are many good F1 drivers in the circuit, but many don’t have the tenacity of Michael. If you are a Formula 1 fan, you know what I’m talking about. Michael have several team mates over the years, but very few comes close to his achievement eventhough they have very similar cars. His never give up attitude is what I like about him. Now he is not perfect person, but we can learn something from him.

You see, our finances whether in good or bad shape depends on whether we give up improving it. Many people I know give up. This means, they know it is in terrible condition, but don’t change anything to improve it. Worst still many just ignore it! Don’t do that. Never give up. If you are in a financial bind, take courage to tackle it. It is not going to be easy otherwise how can so many go into so deep a financial mess. But tackling it you must. There are many self help books or professional services that can help, but only if you don’t give up. If nothing else, it would make you a better person on the other side of the tunnel.
