Alternative Income Channel – Part 2
Back to creating alternative income channels. Over the last 8 years of trying to build a sales team, I observed these common characters. First of, I say tried, as I have to admit, I failed. Second bit of background, we sell financial products on straight commission basis. There is no basic pay. Besides the pressure to perform as soon as possible, many of our sales people have a steep learning curve.
One of the reason why I failed is I did not select suitable candidates. Many of the candidates personalities are not suited the field I was in. Even though I too do not have the personality in sales, I did succeed to a certain extent but at a cost. I came to a point to realize this is not my true calling. So get the right people in the right place.
If you plan to work hard and create an income channel, might as well try to find something you enjoy doing. It will give you better staying power, you’ll be more enthusiastic and it won’t feel like work.
That would be the ideal situation. Many a time however, what you enjoy doing might not bring in the money. Then you have to look harder and uncover the talents in you.
Some may disagree and say, “I don’t have the talentâ€. The truth is we are born with more talents than we can ever use. But as the saying goes, if you don’t use it, you are going to lose it, is true. There is always something you can do well. Ask your closest friend who know you. They can give you many pointers and may jog your memory.
In my case, I found that I’m good at analytic, math, visualization and problem solving. Some of these talents are useful for what I’m doing, and I have to develop more people skills.
In summary, look at what you are already doing well. Start there. Then look at your talents and see if they are marketable. If all else fail, stick with your job, no just joking. Develop your undeveloped talents. You might take time. But anything worth while building will take time.
Tiger Woods spent years to develop his golf skills before he became an “overnight†success. Same with countless others.
